A Baby's Work

Sage has been purposefully batting at objects more and more. She is also exploring the world around her using her mouth. She loves this toy telephone and has recently been trying so hard to get it in her mouth. It's crazy how fast children develop at this age. Before we know it, she will be heading off to college.

AHHHHH Cousins!

I'm so happy that Sage and Maggie have each other. My family is so lucky to have these two beautiful little girls.

More Tummy Time

Sage is doing so well on her tummy. She is propping herself up on her forearms, turning her head from side to side and of course rolling from her stomach to her back. She is also working really hard trying to reach for objects.

Rough Day

Yesterday our poor daughter had a terrible day. It started out with only a half hour nap for her daddy in the morning and as soon as she was ready to go down for her next nap we had to jump in the car and head to the doctors for her two month well child exam. We discussed her fussiness for both Brad and I on the bottle and breast with Dr Kissam and she increased her dosage of reflux medication hoping that would help. It was also time for vaccinations which were absolutely heart breaking. Sage has the saddest hurt cry you have ever heard. Brad felt sick to his stomach for a couple hours after the visit because it was so traumatic and Sage took it so hard. He kept asking me "if I saw how BIG that needle was (I refused to look)". When we got home our overly tired little girl still refused to sleep. The evening ended with another half hour nap which led into a three hour meltdown. The only thing that seemed to calm our baby girl was mommy wearing her in her sling and circling the backyard for hours (my new exercise routine). She finally passed out at 8:30pm and slept great for most of the night. Hopefully today will be a better day for our poor girl.

Sage is growing well and gaining weight appropriately but we still have a tiny little baby. I guess that's what happens when you have a 6 lb baby at birth.

Our Babies

With Brad out of town over the weekend, I had my mom take Marley so I wasn't so overwhelmed. Yesterday when I went to go pick him up, he ran up to Sage and started licking her from head to toe. He acted more excited to see Sage than his mommy. He also tried to sneak into her room last night. I think if he had the choice he would prefer to sleep with her in her crib versus with Brad and I. I definitely think my two babies are going to be the best of friends.

Development Update:
Tonight Sagey rolled from her stomach to her back three times in a row. I'm now going to have to get creative on ways to keep her on her tummy. She is also reaching and grasping mommy's hair (not so fun) and her pink peek a boo scarf. She has long conversations with mommy and daddy consisting of lots of cute gurgles and coos. Did I mention that my daughter has the cutest little girl voice in the entire world.

Sage and Sleep

I know I said we weren't going to attempt night time crib sleeping until she was three months old but she was starting to take longer naps in her crib and was putting herself to sleep fairly easily so we thought we would try it. She would sleep great co-sleeping, but getting her to fall asleep in our bed was taking longer and longer every time. The first night in her crib almost felt like she was a newborn again. She woke up almost every hour but luckily she went back to sleep fairly easily. Yesterday her Auntie Melissa put her to bed because Brad and I decided to go out on a date (lucky Auntie Melissa got to witness Sage's evening fussiness). Sage woke up a couple times for Melissa to fuss a little and eat and ended up going to actual sleep around ten. Sage slept until four (which is amazing), woke up and ate and went right back to sleep. Hopefully this is a sign that our night times are looking up.

-I wanted to mention how much I love the halo sleep sacks. I was so worried about our baby girl getting cold at night, especially in our poorly heated old house, but the sleep sack keeps Sage nice and warm at night. Thanks for the great gift Michele.

Night Time Routine

Brad and I are trying to set up a consistent night time routine with Sage so she has familiar cues that it is bedtime and goes to sleep easier. Our night time routine consists of a blue light (blue light helps the body sleep), reading night time books with mommy and daddy, and cuddling with her doudou. As you can tell, she still sleeps with us which I guess is going to be for awhile longer since she wakes up throughout the night to eat. The good part is that she goes back to bed quickly after eating which she wasn't doing before. My goal is to transition her to her crib at night at three months depending on her weight gain, how long she is sleeping through the night, and my milk supply. If all those factors are going well, I think the transition will be pretty easy considering she puts herself to sleep in her crib for daytime naps.

The Mohawk

Yesterday I noticed that my beautiful baby girl had an awesome mohawk, so of course Brad and I had to take some pictures. Enjoy!!!!!


FYI-She is sitting in her new baby bjorn chair. I purchased it to help keep her upright after feedings due to the acid reflux. She seems to enjoy it so far.

Sage decided to jump into the tub with Maggie Moo and was quite enjoying herself.

That was until Maggie dropped a cup on her face!

Daddy and Sage's First Full Day Together

This is how Brad and Sage survived their first full day together.

FYI-He needs to practice the wrap (but it works). He refuses to let me help him wrap the sling. He wants to do it all by himself. For those of you nervous about sling use, I have repeatedly reminded Brad of the important safety precautions when baby wearing.

This week I went back to work on Wednesday. I am now working part time (Mondays and Wednesdays) until September 15th. Even though I knew Sage would be well taken care of, I still had a nervous/sick feeling in my gut while driving to work. These last two months for me have been all about Sage, so going to work seemed selfish and weird. She and Brad had a great day. For most of the day she was comfy and cozy in her sling sleeping on her daddy's chest while he did some light house cleaning (have I mentioned before that my child is obsessed with her sling). I know that Sage and Brad will have their ups and downs, just like her and I do, but having a good first day back at work was a huge relief.

Horizontal Time

Today Sage worked on her tummy time, grasping toys, bringing an object to her mouth and bringing her hands into midline. She also rolled over once from her stomach to her back (which is pretty amazing for a seven week old). She attempted to try it again but her pesky arm got in the way. I also noticed that she is starting to look more like Melissa and I (especially in the tummy time pictures).

FYI-Wednesday is her 2 month birthday. I'll try my hardest to get some pictures and make a post.

No Smile, But a Nice Yawn and Some Hiccups!

Sara brought Sage over to hang out with Magnolia and I while she went grocery shopping. After Maggie went down for her nap, Sage and I hung out on the patio watching Boston chase a squirrel, and looking up at the beautiful trees. Sage was smiling and cooing up a storm, until I turned on the camera of course! You do get to see an awful cute yawn though, and then a little "ahhh" followed by some hiccups that made her a little mad.

The Daddy/Daughter Double Chin

Pinky Toes

Sara noticed that Sage likes to extend her pinky toe sometimes from the rest of her toes. Turns out that Sage is not the only one in the family who does this. Not only does her daddy do this sometimes but her Grandma Smith often makes fun of Grandpa Smith for doing this with his pinky toes.

Sorry for the lack of posts lately. The last few weeks have been pretty exhausting since Sage's fussy period seemed to peak last week. There were a few nights where Brad and I would constantly need to soothe her for for up to 5-6 hours until she passed out due to exhaustion. I'm not going to lie; being a mommy was not fun during those few days. She seems to be doing a lot better (as of the last few days) and is spending more time being social and playing with Mommy and Daddy. Mornings seem to be her favorite time of the day. Sleep during the night is also getting better. We usually get a good 5 hour stretch in the beginning of the night, she wakes up to eat, and goes right back to sleep. Daytime napping on the other hand is a little more challenging. We are lucky if we get her to sleep in her crib for 45 minutes.

Development Update:
Did I mention she is smiling like crazy at us. She also consistently turns to her daddy's voice. Mommy's voice not so much. She is cooing up a storm. Her favorite things to say right now is "ahhhhhhhhh." Last night she decided to strike up a conversation with her lamp because she wasn't quite ready for bed and mommy wasn't playing with her due to the fact that it was bedtime. I found it pretty entertaining (Brad not so much considering he needed his sleep for work the next day). She also tracks faces and objects of interest in multiple directions. While on her tummy she engages in lots of bi-lateral kicking and she lifts her head up (sometimes chest too) and turns it from side to side. I once found her in her pack-n-play laying on her tummy propped up on her forearms (head and chest up) just looking around checking out the room.
